Mason Higgins

Mason Higgins, MPTC Student

Mason Higgins is 18, in his first year at Moraine Park and only a few credits shy of a college degree because he took all the manufacturing courses available to him through the Start College Now program in high school.

“I took Intro to Welding as a high school freshman and after hours of welding time, I knew for certain this would be my career.”

Higgins began working at Metalcraft of Mayville as part of his high school’s Youth Apprenticeship program. Now, he works full-time, five nights a week while taking courses at Moraine Park.

“The opportunities I got from Moraine Park’s partnership with my high school have helped me get ahead financially. I was able to start laying the groundwork for my future before graduating and I’m confident and prepared as I move into my next chapter.”

Damien Garza

“When I came to Moraine Park, I did not want to do any extracurriculars,” MPTC student, Damien Garza, said. “I was here to do a job. I had been through school before, and I knew the drill: show up, do the work, get the grades and graduate. Eventually, after attending a few meetings, my mind started to change.”

Garza serves as Moraine Park’s Fond du Lac Student Senate President and the College’s District Student Government (DSG) President.

Yadira, 20, is a second-year student in Moraine Park’s Nursing program, and Guadalupe, 18, just started her first semester of the Substance Abuse Disorder Counseling program.

Yadira works at Marquardt Home Health as a CNA and plans to pursue her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) after graduation and work in women’s health. She is also a part of Moraine Park’s Promise program, an opportunity for debt-free tuition.

“Moraine Park’s Promise Program has not only helped me afford tuition, but it has also given me amazing mentors who helped guide me as a first-generation college student,” Yadira mentioned.
